Be Like Christ

We were created to be like Christ because God’s original design for humanity was to reflect His character and glory. Genesis 1:26–27 says we were made in God’s image, meaning we were created with the capacity to mirror His love, holiness, and righteousness.

Sin distorted that image, but God’s redemptive plan through Jesus restores it. Romans 8:29 teaches that those God foreknew were “predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son,” showing that Christlikeness is the goal of sharing our salvation. Jesus perfectly reveals what humanity was meant to be—fully obedient, loving, humble, and dependent on the Father. Not believing the lies of Satan and trusting wholeheartedly in God.

Through faith in Christ, we are made new creations (2 Corinthians 5:17), and the Holy Spirit begins transforming us from the inside out. This transformation is ongoing, as 2 Corinthians 3:18 explains that we are being changed into Christ’s image “from glory to glory.”

God uses Scripture, prayer, obedience, and even trials to shape our character (James 1:2–4). Ephesians 4:22–24 calls believers to put off the old self, which belongs to the former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, putting on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.

Becoming like Christ is not about perfection in this life, but steady growth and surrender. Ultimately, when Christ returns, we will fully reflect Him, for 1 John 3:2 promises that"we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.” And everyone who hopes in hin purifies himself as he is pure.
